Tam Smith from Aecon Construction Company said the keys for the Port Modernization buildings were handed over six weeks ahead of schedule.
He made this statement during yesterday’s, September 18th, official ceremony held for the handing over of keys for the Buildings on the Port Modernization Project at the site of the Modern Port in Kingstown.
Smith commended all stakeholders who were involved in the project for working assiduously to ensure that the project was completed ahead of schedule. He thanked the Government for a smooth working relationship.
"We are here today to hand over two (2) buildings: the Container Freight Station and the Customs and Port Administration Building. These are being handed over six (6) ahead of schedule and I think that is something we are all really proud of here at Aecon. But this is only possible because of the commitment from all the stakeholders to ensure that this project was executed as efficiently and as quickly as possible. Let's start from the top, without the support of the Prime Minister and him enabling the project implementation unit, with the authority to go and get things done, we would not be here today six (6) weeks ahead of schedule. As the port has continued with Minister Browne, the PS and everybody involved."
Smith said his team feels a great sense of satisfaction with the work which has been completed on the project.
"Thanks to the Aecon team, to my guys, to the people who have built this project, they have invested three and a half years (3 1/2) of their lives in bringing this project to fruition. And for me personally, thank you very much. To see it being handed over today, that's why we do what we had to do. We get a massive amount of satisfaction in handing over projects at the end. Not wishing to degrade any other professions but I think working for three and a half (3 1/2) years and having something physical to hand over is a real satisfaction in that, and is something that will be here for many years to come."
