Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said work is currently ahead of schedule in the ongoing transference of operations from the old, to the modern Port site.

He made this disclosure during a recent 'Face to Face' programme aired on NBC Radio.

Prime Minister Gonsalves said he has been assured by the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Port Authority that the transference work is progressing well ahead of the full operationalization of the Modern Port, later this month.

"The Port will be opened on the 25th October. We are ahead as Carl James, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Port Authority explained to me in terms of the transference.  All the IT Systems are in because we have two important buildings, there are some other buildings, buildings from where they will be operating. They are putting the IT Systems.  The equipment is here. There is one piece of equipment which should have been arriving and one remaining piece, a significant piece which should be coming on the 14th, but it is delayed until the 18th. So it should be here in any case.  In any event we have other equipment but this is a major piece."
